Because it's out of sight, you can't see the types of monsters in that room, but rest assured that they're bad news. In particular, it's difficult to face up to things like this without great AC. The lack of armor is just a trifle worrying. I got a mace of crushing, however, which made me rather happy despite its low bonuses. I found plate mail lying on the ground on D:2, but then proceeded to find absolutely no armor worth anything. I had really odd luck to begin this game. Yes, the one from the screenshot above, where he is worshipping the God of Weaponry and Being Japanese, Okawaru. I ran a couple of joke characters (Ghoul Necromancer is not a good combo, folks) in order to clear out the rage, and then started another Mountain Dwarf Fighter (MDFi). I actually lived, but only long enough to teleport again and stumble from one beating to another like a washed-up palooka. Yes, I landed in the middle of that from a teleport. and ultimately was the victim of even worse luck with teleports. was the victim of really bad stair location. sacrificed innocents to sate the bloodlust of dark and eldritch gods. I met some of the locals and exchanged pointed remarks. Which isn't to say that there wasn't fun to be had. I'm playing these on CAO, which was mentioned up-thread, and the statistics there will inform you that I played twenty-two characters before this nice fellow was finally given the "blessing" of the LP.

Of course, it didn't exactly have a great effect.

Sorry, guys continue to play in the tile version if you want, but I actually shook my fist at my screen in rage, and that's something that shouldn't happen. I like the tiles, but it's so much easier to get the required information on an ASCII screen that it seems ridiculous not to use it.

I had just started to take screenshots with a particular character-giving him the "blessing," as it were, of the LP-when I died because I forgot which tile represented the more dangerous orc. I played half a dozen more characters until a horrible thing happened. He is-or, rather, was-a Sludge Elf Necromancer, which is a surprisingly buff combination. Funny how that works, huh? During this period my highest-levelled character was. Well, after starting the Let's Play I suffered through a long period of sustained failure.
